‘Psychosis’ is a word used in the world of mental health as if we all know – and agree – on what it means. Still, each of us will have a unique perspective on what it means, where we find it, what causes it and whether it’s a helpful term to use at all.
A biological illness? A natural response to trauma? In the body, the mind or the space between people? A spiritual crisis? An altered state? Something to be lived through, or something to be cured?
This is a respectful space to explore different ideas about ‘psychosis’.
We welcome people from different perspectives – including people with personal experience of this thing called ‘psychosis’, their supporters, clinicians, students, members of the community and anyone interested in this area.
We hope you will bring yourself .. some thoughts to share .. questions .. a sense of curiousity .. an open mind .. respect for diversity … some snacks to share (if you like) .. some poetry or a song (if you prefer to share in a creative way).
About This Event
This event is run in partnership with Open Dialogue UK and Mind in Camden (who are providing the venue). It is inspired in part by the 3 Year Open Dialogue Training that I’m currently participating in. As a trainee, I’m keen to involve the community in the discussions we’re having on the course – and ensure that these discussions remain founded in the diverse lived experience of us all.
As the venue has limited space, I am asking people to book their place via Eventbrite (or e-mail me with your name and contact details so I can add you to the list). If you’re unable to attend, please let me know so I can free up the place for someone else.
I will be bringing some biscuits, but if you’d like to bring some food to share with other attendees – please do. Equally, if you want to bring a song or poem in order to share your persective or experience of psychosis – please do. This is a community event and we recognise that each of us have different ways of expressing ourselves.
Please share this with anyone you think may be interested.
